Traffic


In Malta is left hand traffic. Speed restrictions exist and are in general 40 km/h in villages and 60 km/h outside villages. On Sundays and public holidays is fuel only on automatic pumping stations available. Hire cars can be reserved direct through Mad Shark Diving.


Electricity

You find everywhere in Malta 240 V AC coming from UK type sockets. Adapters for any other European plugs are available in nearly all DIY shops or in good hotels for rent.


Money

Since January 1, 2008 is the Euro Malta's official currency. Eurocheques can be credited at all banks. In nearly any bigger restaurant, supermarket and a lot of other shops are all major credit cards accepted. You can get cash with a euro cheque card and all major credit cards at local ATM's.


Health


The medical system in Malta is very good. Close to Valletta a modern hospital just opened replacing the old a little outdated one. Small 24-hour open clinics can be found in any major village and most pharmacies housing also a doctor. To cover any medical related costs, check back wit your health insurance to get coverage.


Seasons


Malta has a very mild climate. The average temperature in winter hardly drops below 15º C. Perception is very low throughout the year.

Language


Official language in Malta is Malti and English. A lot of older Maltese also speak Italian.



Pets


The import of pets is in general possible but they have to stay for 6-month quarantine to the expense of the owner. If you just come for a holiday taking your pet is not a real possibility


Time


In Malta is the official time the central European time (CET), which is on hour ahead of Greenwich time. Please not the 1h adjustment for winter and summer.


X-ray

Please note that all luggage checking systems on airports are x-ray operated. Any sensitive material e.g. photo material from 400 ASA can be damaged.


Customs

Malta is EU member. EU citizen, please take at least your ID card with you. There are no travel restrictions for EU-members. Like everywhere in the EU is it prohibited to import or export duty free goods.
